Dr. Adam Schofield

MD, FRCSC, Master’s of Minimally Invasive Surgery

Dr. Adam Schofield is a highly trained upper gastrointestinal surgeon specializing in weight loss surgery.

After finishing his medical degree at the University of Calgary, Dr. Schofield completed an intensive residency training program in general surgery in Calgary, Alberta.  During residency, he developed a passion for upper gastrointestinal surgery, most notably in the areas of bariatrics and esophagogastric oncology.  This passion led him to pursue a two-year, sub-specialty clinical fellowship in upper gastrointestinal surgery at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in South Australia where he had the privilege of training with some of the leading experts in bariatrics.  During his time in Australia, he also completed a Master’s Degree in Minimally Invasive Surgery at the University of Adelaide.

Following his fellowship, Dr. Schofield was recruited back to the Red Deer Regional Hospital where he is currently an attending surgeon with the Central Alberta Bariatric Specialty Clinic.  He has also pioneered the program for totally minimally invasive esophageal cancer resections in central Alberta.

Dr. Schofield’s depth of experience in complex upper gastrointestinal surgery and commitment to excellence allows Vital Bariatrics to offer a full range of primary and revisional bariatric operations at the highest of standards.

Outside of work he is a passionate musician. You may see him around town playing with his classic rock and blues bands!

Cam Barr

Psychologist

Cam has had a long and successful career as a psychologist supporting and working with patients and families.  His philosophy is to work with people starting where they are at and then build skills and knowledge to create and sustain healthy changes. Cam is excited to be part of a multidisciplinary team whose goal is to provide support to those wanting to make changes to improve their health.

Cam has spent the last 5 years of professional practice in the field of bariatrics working as a psychologist in the Alberta Health Services Calgary Adult Bariatric Surgery Clinic. In his experience, he observed that those who were the most successful were people who planned ahead, who were accepting, reflective, and had a good support system. While his current focus is on the field of bariatrics, Cam worked as a Behavioural Health Consultant in family doctors’ clinics helping to support patients with issues related to lifestyle, relationships, pain, sleep, and mental health. He also spent 20+ years working with children and families at the Alberta Children’s Hospital in the areas of brain injury, mental health, abuse, and development. Cam received his master’s degree in Education (Educational Psychology) at the University of Saskatchewan. He has also attended workshops and conferences on cognitive behaviour therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, psychopathology, sleep disorders, and bariatrics. Cam is currently in private practice in Calgary where he lives with his wife.  He enjoys cycling and spending time with his family and grandson.
